Trying too hard to perfectly sum yourself up is a common pitfall. Generally you should avoid anything with numbers, or super descriptive words (Ski Girl Seattle is very boring, even if it’s easy to come up with—and it only conveys information we’d be able to find in other areas of her profile).
It’s also best not to just recycle whatever old school internet handle has been your Twitter username and forum login info for years—stuff we created c.
Maybe you can’t tell, but it’s really hard for me to come up with pretend GOOD examples.

Single Malt Brisket – Better : Grabs interest with a slight play on words; clearly indicates that you like a) whiskey and b) meat.
Anyone who isn’t comfortable with a partner who consumes those substances is likely to skip you, which is actually in your best interests if this username fits your vibe.
These are real people who have been generous enough to share their actual usernames, or sometimes allowed me to share a vague notion of what their username was like.
(Note that real usernames generally can’t contain spaces, but I’m deliberately listing any multi-word entries as phrases to add a tad more privacy for these volunteers.) (As my husband would jokingly yell, “WORDS MEAN THINGS! Think about the double-entendre and maybe check the terms you want to use in Urban Dictionary, but with a grain of salt.) Ski Rainier – A-OK : Totally inoffensive, and devoid of awkward numbers/underscores; conveys a bit about your potential interests which can help spark a conversation and appeal to similarly outdoorsy singles (or singles who find skiers hot, or singles who want someone to help them learn to ski, etc.) : Still a little boring, but you’re getting there! The goal is to blend your sense of humor, possibly an activity or hobby or some esoteric word that in some way relates to you, and combine it all with word play that makes someone go “hmm” (in the good way, not this way) and give you a second look. : The “Cool Guys” part is boring and the rest is borderline creepy/offensive to most gals.Of course, this will be paired with a GREAT profile picture, and a GREAT profile. Let’s analyze a couple usernames and think about what they convey to potential matches. Even if sex is important to you, you come off like a complete jackass if you actually spell that out with middle school shorthand. These first ones are mainly designed with a straight guy in mind. As covered in the roundup link of bad username ideas, avoid anything sexxxxy here. The sex comes later; you can’t frontload it in a username. You WILL get laid eventually if you come off as a human and not a sexbot troll douchebag. Life is short and there are waaaay too many dudes online you’re competing with; you’ve got to find a way to stand out a bit more than this.
